Well, it’s
SHAMPOO WEEK
again. As you know, that means there’s going to be three more comics this week, on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. What you might not know is that the word “shampoo” comes from the Hindi “champo,” which means “knead the muscles,” or, basically, “massage.”
But you might already know that because I might have mentioned it before. I’m not sure; there’re only so many things I can say about shampoo.
Damn autocorrect, the author of that article on Saturn clearly meant to write “soapy” and “sudsy”.
I distinctly recall seeing the “champo” tidbit mentioned in an earlier Shampoo Week, but I believe the occasional repetition is at the heart of any webcomic’s ascent to becoming an authoritative source on shampoo etymology.
I honestly felt a brief surge of happiness late last week when I realized that this week was the first week of October. I think shampoo week might belong to the fairly small set of “holidays and/or date-based events that I actually care about”.
If I knew it before, I forgot. Now I know it again! Prolly forget again.
Hooray for more shampoo week! I like that Shampoober Alles is still funny even if you don’t know the reference.
NAR: I’m glad it’s not just my professional bias—NBC really needs better editing! Not ONE mention of the likely shampoo ore deposits in the entire article!
Xin: I think “holiday” is the appropriate word. Yeah, it’s a week, but so are Hanukkah and, um, National Handwriting Analysis Week.
Cold: The German for “shampoo” is “Shampoo,” so it’s pretty much a bilingual pun—a cultural rendezvous point, if you will. I’m a damn ambassador.
Isto, Cold: Can you guess the Dutch word for shampoo though?
Probably something like shampooen or tulip goo, I would think.
