Hey, so remember the 100th Mountain Time episode (which was actually like 103rd or thereabouts, because I like subtracting 3 from things I guess?), which was sort of a big milestone because it was the 100th comic (and that

Bravo Isto, you managed to combine two of my favorite things: Agoraphobic Hamster and boners! The smooching fruit was a great bonus.
Also, I’d like to preregister for my copy of Old People Racing.
Is the O in smooch that holds the planet really that small or is it a manner of perspective?
Which smooch holds the planet?
Would old people racing be with cars or hoveround scooters?
Why is Pokemon 255 in gold and silver versions named ‘?????’?
This episode of mountain time is so enigmatic!
Now you have me trying to imagine how many bits all of my favorite webcomics are.. I dunno how many mine is.. maybe 32-bit?
DOUBLE BONERS.
Ah, but you explicitly named your first comic “Mountain Time 1”; comic 255 would only be the milestone if you included 0. So take that.
In any event, if it’s the NES we’re desigining a philosophy around (as it should be, don’t get me wrong), comic 6502 is the one to look forward to.
Booster: Would that I could do it, but you’re going to have to lobby somewhere else to get Old People Racing made.
Albino: It’s the top smooch (you can tell by the line beneath it). It’s actually that small; it’s all a matter of scale. Old People Racing would ideally have all kinds of race types: Hoverounds, walkers, sedans, etc. Couldn’t tell you about the Pokemon, though.
ColdFusion: It would seem that you’re working with more than 16, at least. Then again, Yoshi’s Island (for the SNES) had some really nice cartoon graphics.
Tens: I see your point about the lack of a Mountain Time 0, but note that I only claimed this to be “the barrier beyond which each Mountain Time episode will be numbered greater than a car in Rad Racer can go,” which is still 255. Regarding 6502, maybe I should start numbering comics by panels (so Mountain Time 1 would become Mountain Time 1-12)? Otherwise I’ll never reach it.
Of course, the Rad Racer Clause, how silly of me to overlook that.
As for numbering, I say number them by pixels. That way you’ve got every comic ever made beat, hands down.
Which would make this somewhere around Mountain Time 238,966,875. I like it.
255 is significant in 8-bit games because of the hexadecimal code on which they’re based. It’s the highest two-digit number in hex (FF).
255 was also the highest level you could reach on the first Pokemon generation by means of rare candy (of course, you’d have to run across the missingno. glitch to have than many rare candies) — after that it would reset to 0.
Congrats, Isto! Also, I received my hand-drawn snailbear last Saturday! Thank you!
Logan: A much cleverer person than myself would have numbered the entire series that way, starting with Mountain Time 00 and ending with Mountain Time FF, with lots of Battleship jokes along the way.
Still, 256 DOES make Pac-Man (the game, not the hungry circle) suffer from face-melt-itis, which screams “Ark of the Covenant” to me.
Armadillo: My pleasure!
