I remember the first time I saw an adaptation of The Velveteen Rabbit that actually visually showed how there was nothing back there. Until then, the illustrator had apparently just not gotten the point. To this day I think it’s weird they didn’t mention that he was a stocking-stuffer. Would’ve made way more sense maybe.
Oh wow, I have no recollection of that at all. You could tell me pretty much anything about the Velveteen Rabbit and I’d believe it so long as it included the few things I know for sure:
1. The kid is sick
2. The kid has a velveteen rabbit
3. Shaq is the genie
Don’t forget the part where they burn all of his possessions just because he’s gotten sick. That’s what stuck with me.
Also the bizarrely-named “skin horse” which really sounds like a euphemism.
