For the first three and a half panels, there is no hamster. For that time, the only “you” that “you” can be is the reader. Sure, at the very end, they’ll say “phew, okay, that was the hamster referring to himself. haha! Woah. Totally not a message to me from god or the collective unconscious. haha.” But until that point, anybody with insecurities (not that I have any insecurities) is going to be a little taken aback!
Ah, yes, but then when you see the hamster, you think, Oh, that’s how the hamster thinks about himself, and his most distinguishing characteristic is neurosis. Maybe if I avoid thinking about myself in such a negative way, it will benefit my mental health.
So it’s really a psychologically helpful strip, yeah? Same principal as everything Charlie Brown ever did?
Coy: Yep, it’s the hamster. And he’s directing his thoughts at himself, so there isn’t even any misanthropy going on.
Nano: Is there an emoticon for winking at someone, and at the same time making a little gun with your hand and making a “chick-chick” noise with the side of your mouth? I’m going to use:

I… Umm… Great comic?
Wow. That’s a powerful thing right there. But are you prepared to take responsibility for any resulting suicides?
lol this made my day xD
Poor Hamster! No wonder he’s always eeping all over the place.
I see you’ve received a fresh batch of fan mail.
I didn’t realize people identified with the hamster so much. I mean, the guy has DIED numerous times before.

Good to know it’s the real agoraphobic hamster. For awhile there I suspected that last panel was a misanthropic echidna impersonating him.
Seeing such thoughts in another person helps me see how foolish they are when I think them about myself. Thanks for this one, Isto! It made me smile.
