Ellen Foley
The only thing harder than Steven in panel 5 was writing an ending to this comic. Only after I had drawn it did I realize that panel 6 messes up almost anything that comes after it.
For instance, if panel 7 had an onion killing a condor, you’d assume that one of them were Steven, returned to his natural form. If panel 7 showed a tetrapod making a first-ever terrestrial venture in the late Devonian, you’d assume Steven were some transient eternal being forced to live through the whole of Earth’s biological history, with occasional hedonistic vacations to later forms.
After much pondering, I finally came up with this as a way to get Steven the hell out of my comic. What a jerk.

Unfortunately, the world was not ready for Steven and his electric shoes. He had to be exiled for his radical ideas. Brilliant stuff, good work, etc. You know, the usual praise.

I figured Steven was just banned because he was revealing too much information about The Wonder Years to the world. Too much of a good thing isn’t always appreciated.

Alas, there should have been a ninth panel, where surf rat triumphed again.
